Stylishly Sexy, an all female team delivering a boudoir photography experience in Hillcrest, Durban, KZN, South Africa.
Stylishly Sexy Boudoir Photography Studio, featuring an all female team, operates from discreet premises in Hillcrest, KZN, to provide a glamourous adventure for women of all ages and sizes who deserve to feel like a goddess, and have photographic proof to keep and treasure, either for themselves or a cherished partner.
Just so we are clear about who I am – I am a professional photographer, female and happily married to my husband of 18 years, and I was born in the 1960s. I understand, I believe, what my boudoir clients want to achieve. And my experience with previous clients and skill with camera, lights and props means that I am fairly confident I can achieve it.
Boudoir photography is a service catering to people (yes, mostly women) who want to have sensual photos taken of themselves for many and varied reasons; to do something perhaps a bit exciting and daring (but safe), to celebrate themselves, to spoil their partners, to get back that sexy feeling of confidence! Whatever the reason, I believe that you should leave the studio feeling good about yourself and feeling empowered and beautiful. Now that we have established that boudoir and glamour are two different things, I may as well tell you I am definitely not a glamour model, but I have done a boudoir shoot myself, and I know I can show you boudoir poses that will be soft, beautiful, flattering and definitely sexy.
I try to align myself with my boudoir client, making sure I understand what they want from their boudoir photography session. Is this a celebratory event, a pick-me-up session, or a gift to that someone special? The needs of my client are especially important, as is discretion and an all-female team. I need my client to be as comfortable as possible as quickly as possible, so that we can reveal that inner goddess and capture her for all time.

We don't claim to know everything there is to know about boudoir, makeup or photography, but we have picked up some things that make sense that we would like to share with you. Take from this what you want to, not all of it applies to everybody, how boring would that be!! Just be you, relax and enjoy the boudoir experience … Sandra & Samantha
DON'T forget to smile! Boudoir is definitely about being stylishly sexy but you are not limited to the serious face! Different expressions can turn a good shoot, into a GREAT shoot! And you do want to have fun … DO have fun! Honestly, there is nothing better than feeling like a super-model, movie star, glamorous rock chick in front of the camera!
Some stuff to think about -
Think about getting a manicure and pedicure the day before the shoot. French polish does not clash with anything. But if you have a particular style or outfit in mind, that coordinated look can be stunning!
If you get your hair coloured on a regular basis be sure to have your hair done the same week as your shoot. Roots are really hard to retouch and I may have to charge extra if you ask me to retouch what your hairstylist should have done.
If you have a package with the hair and makeup stylist wash your hair the day before and arrive with clean fresh skin. Or as little makeup as you can comfortably leave the house with!! If you have booked a shoot that does not include our stylist/HMUA then you are a bride coming from your trial makeup. Generally we say relax, enjoy the pampering!!
Wear loose clothing to your shoot. Don’t wear anything tight fitting because it can leave marks on your skin. Especially if we are going to do some implied nude photography. Strap marks are very difficult to retouch.
Please exfoliate, moisturise and be hydrated for the shoot. Believe me, your skin and the camera will love you for this.
Be sure and eat breakfast. Do not skip meals because it is not going to make a big difference in how you look. If you really feel like you can’t eat a regular meal then eat a protein bar. It can be hard work to look beautiful and you don’t want to run out of steam before the session is over.
Do not get sun burned or tan lines. Look after your skin. Be careful about tan lines and burning before your session. Retouching sunburn is not included in your package. If you have really bad tan lines be sure to have your lingerie match up with the lines or I may have to charge extra for extensive retouching depending on how bad it is.
Do not get a spray tan. Just don’t! If you opt to use either a spray tan or self-tanner; you may not be allowed to use certain parts of the studio and props because of the risk of the solution smudging. Please note that spray tans and self-tanner do not photograph well in most cases.
More things to think about! Do not go on a crazy diet, start going to the gym, or alter yourself in any major way - you are beautiful the way you are! Just make sure you have all your "grooming" done! You know what we mean - whether it's waxing, shaving, plucking, threading. And let things calm down, don’t do things on the morning or the night before. But, please don’t turn up and go “Oops! I haven't shaved my armpits/legs/bikini line in a month!” This will really limit what we can do in the studio!
Make sure your eyebrows are tweezed and waxed, as well as any other areas on your face that you typically wax. You don’t want to do this the day of the shoot, since it may leave your skin red and irritated.
Stay away from energy drinks and highly processed foods, which are not friendly to the happy glow of your skin.
Sip on plenty of water throughout your days.
Stay away from excessive salt, which causes bloating.
Always make sure your face and hair clean before going to sleep to prevent breakouts!
DON'T start with new skin products a couple of days before (lotions, face washes) - a bad reaction is not easy to hide!
DON'T over-do the body glitter/bronzer/shimmer or the hairspray. Shimmer makeup and lotion reflect light and do not look good on camera. Less is more, bring with and we can apply to that décolletage as we get into the shoot. Too much hairspray makes your hair hard to touch, which you do in boudoir photos. Your hair might get a little messy, or if your curls fall a bit- this is the look you want.
DO bring outfits, jewellery, heels, props....whatever! Please remember that if you have only one outfit change allowed in your package then it is a bit unfair to ask for two or three. If you are having fun and want to pay to extend your package, then if the studio has time that can be arranged.
OUTFITS – bring your own or borrow/buy some of our stock! Baby dolls/camisoles are fantastic. Matching bra and panties – great if you are comfortable. Add a garter belt and stockings for drama! Corsets – ooh la la, absolutely – they shape, cover, and show just enough. If you don’t have your own stuff then we do have outfits in the studio that you can borrow (even buy if you like them).
KNICKERS! Wear sexy panties – it doesn’t matter if they are covering your booty or are barely there. Make sure they fit nicely, are in good condition and are a material that makes YOU feel sexy and confident. Black is normally best, but you choose what you know you look and feel good in.
HEELS! These look so stunning, shape legs and really are a must. Black Heels are great, black with a red sole is stunning, but if you have any other colours bring them along too.
STOCKINGS! Not pantyhose or tights – stockings, stopping mid-thigh. I normally have some stock to sell (unfortunately can’t let you borrow) but best if you bring your own. Black is always good, lacy is great. A proper stocking, with a garter/suspender belt rather than a hold-up works best (holdups have a big elastic at the top that squishes!)
DON'T bring ONLY lingerie. Ok, let me explain … bring lingerie. It is sexy, we know that! Lingerie can be very sexy, but you don't want to limit yourself to this look. We can do some more natural looks as well - his shirts, a sports jersey (Boks or Sharks, no Blou Bulle hey! Only teasing!) Veils and garters are an absolute must for wedding boudoir. Think hats, scarves, high socks, fur, anything you want honey! We will dress you up!
